鲁顺民，山西河曲人。中共党员。1987年毕业于山西师范大学中文系，同年参加工作，任中学语文教师八年。1996年调入山西省作协，历任《山西文学》编辑部编辑、编辑部主任、副主编、主编。2003年入鲁迅文学院参加第二届高级研修班学习。
1986年开始发表作品。2006年加入中国作家协会。著有散文、报告文学集《380毫米降水线——世纪之交中国北方的农村和农民》，报告文学《送84位烈士回家》、《王家岭的诉说》（合著）、长篇散文《山西古渡口——黄河的另一种陈述》。报告文学《380毫米降水线——世纪之交中国北方的农村和农民》获赵树理文学奖，《送84位烈士回家》获辽宁省“五个一工程”奖，根据该报告文学改编的广播剧《英烈回家》获2012年全国“五个一工程”奖。
