本书是中国工程设计大师、一级注册建筑师(特许)黄星元从事建筑设计以来约50件作品，其中22件作了较为重点的介绍，按作品年代顺序排列，内容主要是：(1)早期设计院工作有代表性的工程；(2)改革开放之后在特区建设的项目；(3)近期参加设计投标的作品。摘其重点整理选编，将许多经验教训抑或成功之处诉诸同行，这就是本书的记录意义。
