本书为医药高等院校规划教材。本次修订为了顺应医药卫生事业的发展和行业对人才素质要求不断提高的趋势，基于学生已具备的公共英语基础，引导学生通过学习本课程，掌握常用的医学英语术语及专业词汇，具备一定的阅读英文原版专业教科书、网络资源或文献的能力，提高学生医学英语应用水平。本教材结合医药卫生类专业医学基础课和专业课知识，分为医学基础英语和医学专业英语两大部分。医学基础英语涉及医院、社区卫生服务、医学术语、科研论文摘要、解剖学、生理学、微生物学、免疫学、病理学、药理学、健康评估等医学基础课内容，适用于医药卫生类各专业学生学习；医学专业英语包括与护理、助产、临床医学等专业相关的基础护理、内科、外科、妇科、产科、儿科、精神科等专业内容，以及与药学、医学检验技术、康复治疗技术、口腔医学、口腔医学技术、医学影像技术、医学美容技术、眼视光技术、老年保健与管理等专业相关内容。各专业可根据实际情况选择其中的课文进行学习。本教材适合已具备一定公共英语基础的高职高专医药卫生类各专业学生使用。
