森林对话机制是国家林业局为了探讨森林可持续经营、利用各方力量解决我国森林问题而建立的各利益方多方参加的平台，本书是2005年度关于中国森林对话机制的专著，具体包括了：林业政策、林业管理、森林保护、森林认证、林产品工业与贸易、森林可持续经营等多方面的内容。

森林对话机制是国家林业局为了探讨森林可持续经营、利用各方力量解决我国森林问题而建立的各利益方多方参加的平台。在林业政策和计划制订方面，寻求各方的合作和协调，强调参与性协调机制，制定跨部门的整体政策和国家重点工程发展规划，强调加强多边和双边的国际合作，促进发展中国家的林业可持续发展规划的制订和实施。在森林保护方面，强调建立新的合作机制，最大限度地考虑当地群众的利益，尊重当地人民的传统风俗和生活习惯，充分调动森林所有者、当地群众和社会各界的参与保护区的规划维护和管理；在实施森林可持续发展战略方面，鼓励在国家、区域和经营单位水平倡导建立森林经营利益相关群体磋商机制，建立和完善公众参与的方法和机制，促进不同利益群体、多学科整合到森林可持续经营的政策、计划、实施和评估中来。加强国际组织的合作，通过森林对话，吸收国际社会及我国各方力量来应对我国目前的森林保护和经营问题，实现林区的和谐和可持续发展，进而实现林业的可持续发展。
