This book is devoted to Kiesler's contributions in the field of design and presents previously unpublished material relating to his innovative furniture designs and prototypes. A large number of sketches, photographs and diary entries document his work from the 30s and 40s. The fact that the furniture manufacturer Wittmann has launched a re-edition of some of his designs proves how modern his forward-lookingprojects continue to be.
After emigrating from Vienna to New York in 1925, the architect, stage designer, and artist Frederick Kiesler soon became an important mediator between European and American positions in the fields of design and architecture. In the following years, he designed furniture and exhibitions and articulated the fundamental prin-ciples of a critical theory of functional architecture and design.
