　　龙卷风是自然界中最猛烈的风暴之一。面对这种可以做成严重伤亡的恶劣天气，我们至今对它的形成过程和生命周期仍未能完全理解。美国是全球每年最多龙卷风出现的国家，大多数的龙卷风都集中在中部地势较平坦的几个州份，因此这地带被称为「龙卷风巷」。
　　深入了解龙卷风以减低受灾地区的损失，是科学家一直努力工作的目标。唐-伯吉斯联同几位科学家带领着全球超过一百位研究恶劣天气的专家，组成了「漩涡2号」研究队。他们在龙卷风最常出现的地区布置载有雷达的车队、附设流动气象站的货车，以及自行设计的先进气象探测仪器，务求收集更多更深入的资料进行分析，藉此提高龙卷风预报的速度和准确性，令人们有较多的时间躲避疏散，以期将伤亡数字尽量减至最低。另一方面，爱好研究龙卷风的桑恩-凯西和队友无惧危险，追逐龙卷风多年。他们把车辆改装成能抵御时速超过300公里龙卷风的装甲车，并称之为「龙卷风截击车」，誓要驾着它勇闯龙卷风的中央，近距离拍摄其内部的影像，从而揭开龙卷风的真面目。
　　「追击龙卷风」会带领你参与这个史上最大型的龙卷风研究计划，跟随研究队深入危机处处的龙卷风巷，探究龙卷风的形成过程、移动路径，以及强度变化等情况。观众更会与几位追风斗士一同闯进龙卷风的心脏地带，置身於具强大破坏力的旋风之中，目击极度恶劣天气环境的实况，感受大自然无比震撼的威力。
