本书的二十多幅画，是伟大长征的片断纪录，是真实的革命史料，也是珍贵的艺术品。作者同千千万万的战士一起，万里跋涉，在战斗的行列中，用画笔写下了这些历史的动人的场面。这些画是感人至深的。作者特别突出地反映了红军战士们的革命乐观主义精神；也纪录下了红军路过的少数民族地区的风光和“干人儿”(即穷人)的苦维的生活。这样的作品至今还不多见。但愿今天有画笔在手的同志们，多多地画吧，把我们这个伟大的社会主义时代的新生活更有力地表现出来！
