本教材除了保留传统的阅读、词汇、翻译等内容，更侧重培养学生的交流能力和表达能力。本书口语训练部分列出常用功能意念，提供相应的句型、短对话和Role Play练习，以及公共演讲的技巧的阐述，有助于学生英语实用能力的提高。
