硫铝酸盐水泥问世于上世纪70年代，具有煅烧温度低、强度发展快、强度高、碱性低、耐海水和盐碱腐蚀等特殊优异性能，在结构混凝土、特种工程材料以及水泥制品等多领域广泛应用。经过科技工作者多年创新和攻关，硫铝酸盐水泥已在中国实现了大规模工业化生产，年产量超过200万吨，并向20多个国家出口。目前，水泥产业节能低碳发展已形成全球共识，水泥混凝土材料高性能化已成为主要的发展方向。全世界的科技工作者对硫铝酸盐水泥的研究和应用显示出强烈兴趣，研究工作不断深入，硫铝酸盐水泥的应用领域也持续扩展。中国混凝土与水泥制品协会与武汉理工大学联合主办的首届“国际硫铝酸盐水泥材料与工程技术”大会于2013年10月23日至24日在武汉召开。《Proceedings of The First International Conference on Sulphoaluminate Cement--Materials and Engineering Technology(精)》由Xu Yongmo、Hu Shuguang、Shui Zhonghe编著，即是在会议来稿中精选出论文40余篇，结集出版，以飨国内和国外从事水泥、混凝土科学与技术研究的读者。
