本书一部全面反映我国长江三角洲、珠江三角洲及港澳地区社会经济发展情况的资料性年鉴。本书收录了1978-2006年长江三角洲16个城市、珠江三角洲9个城市（其中惠州市、肇州市数据为珠江三角洲区域数据）和港澳地区社会经济统计资料。
本年鉴分为三大部分：（一）综述与分析篇。该篇包括国家统计局国际信息中心总报告，上海市、江苏省、浙江省和广东省四篇分报告。（二）统计数据篇。该篇包括三部分内容：1.综合表。2.长江三角洲与珠江三角洲所辖的25个地级市主要社会和经济发展指标数据。3.香港和澳门特别行政区统计数据。（三）企业竞争力篇。该篇包括长江三角洲与珠江三角洲地区工业、贸易、旅馆、房地产、建筑业等企业的排名。
