Joanne Gair's body paintings have been featured in the SI Swimsuit Issue since 1999. A native of New Zealand, Gair's youthful fascination with the facial adornments of indigenous Maod people led to her career as a renowned makeup artisL Her wizardry reached new levels when she enlarged her canvas to encompass the emtire body and created a suit on Demi Moore for the cover of Vamity Fair in '92-the first of the iconic paintings that made Gair a star in her own right and, ultimately, an annual fixture in SI's Swimsuit Issue. She currently lives in New York City and Los Angeles.
