We are thrilled to present the first major museum exhibition of Olafur Eliasson's work in the United States and offer our visitors the opportunity to experience the sensual and dissonant phenomena of nature and technology. Eliasson's work at the ICA is a passage through unfamiliar landscapes of water, waves of light, and shifting horizons. Like magic, we believe what we see in the landscape. Yet unlike the magician's skillfully orchestrated diversion that masks the sleight of hand, Olafur reveals the underlying construction of his artworks, showing us the scaffolding that supports the manmade lake and the light source for our artificial horizon. These images and experiences conjure up an array of memories and knowledge, hopes and expectations. Together, they ignite a spark of recognition and awareness and expand, for a brief moment in time, human consciousness in an ever-changing world.
