Jean-Claude Pondevie has always been interested in the plastic arts, and he closely follows developments on the world's artistic scene, outside of which he cannot conceive of architecture. He is also intensely interested in photography, which he practises personally. He is also an enthusiastic follower of exhibition design, and in 1990 and 1993 he designed the staging of two important shows at the Musee des Beaux Arts of Nantes.
Jean Claude Pondevie"s architecture expresses the underlying motivations of modern design through a profound concern for the natural and historical contexts in which his works are grounded. Pondevie draws inspiration from the great architecture of the XXth century, bearing the signature of Le Corbusier, Gropius and Terragni, whose underlining premises are relaunched in a most up-to-date idiom. His minimal volumes, discrete surfaces, clever interplay of functions in interior spaces, and implicit allusions to memories from the past, are the key features of his work, whose simplicity is directly proportional to the cultured architectural elegance from which it draws its force.
