这则剧本讲述了一对兄妹——汉塞尔和格雷特的故事。他们和父亲、继母住在一起。他们很穷，继母也恨他俩。孩子们听见继母说家里无法再继续留下汉塞尔和格雷特了。继母带着孩子们进了森林，并且把她们丢在那里。汉塞尔留下了小石子做记号，所以他们能跟着记号回家。父亲对于孩子们回家很开心，但是继母很生气。她又一次带着他们进入森林，并把他们留在那里。汉塞尔留下了面包屑作为记号，但被鸟儿吃了。当孩子们穿过森林时，他们找到了一所姜饼做的房子。当他们在吃屋子上的姜饼时，一位老妇人打开了门。她邀请他们留宿，但她其实是个女巫。她把汉塞尔关进笼子，并把他养到足够肥美，准备吃了他。当女巫让格雷特去加热炉子时，格雷特把女巫推进了炉子。孩子们得以逃跑并回了家。他们的继母已经死了，他们将和父亲一起继续开心地生活。剧本由四幕组成，同时包括：故事概要、角色列表、剧本、中文译文、生词表、看图复述活动等。

作者简介

詹姆斯·宾拥有信息传播专业硕士学位及澳大利亚专业编辑学院的编辑证书，有丰富的教学经验，曾在悉尼大学、多所语言学校任教。曾在剑桥大学出版社等担任编辑，编写过获奖读物以及其他英语教程。吉莉安·法拉蒂拥有应用语言学专业硕士学位及外语教学专业本科学历，在澳大利亚和英国有多年中小学及大学的教学经验，编写过很多英语教程。

前言序言

This play tells the story of a brother and sister， Hansel and Gretel. They live with their father and stepmother. They are poor and their stepmother hates them. The children hear their stepmother saying they cannot afford to keep Hansel and Gretel.
She takes the children into the forest and leaves them there. Hansel leaves a trail of pebbles， so they follow it home. Their father is delighted to see them but their stepmother is angry. She takes them into the forest again and leaves them. Hansel leaves a trail of breadcrumbs， but birds eat them.
When the children walk through the forest， they find a gingerbread house. As they are eating pieces of the house， an old woman opens the door. She invites them to stay， but she is a witch. She puts Hansel in a cage and fattens him up to eat him. When the witch tells Gretel to light the oven， Gretel pushes her into the oven. The children escape and go home. Their stepmother has died and they live happily ever after with their father.
