　　影片根据杜邦集团继承人约翰·杜邦（史蒂夫·卡瑞尔饰）真实生平改编而来，“狐狸捕手”是他在宾夕法尼亚州创立的一个摔跤训练基地。当时著名的奥运金牌摔跤手大卫·舒尔茨（马克·鲁法洛饰）与马克·舒尔茨（查宁·塔图姆饰）应征入队训练。一直以来，大卫和杜邦都是好朋友，然而1996年大卫却被杜邦枪杀致死。杜邦最终被专家判定是妄想型精神分裂症患者，被判服刑30年。
花絮
.塔图姆与鲁法洛为了出演摔跤手训练了6个月。在一场戏中，塔图姆坚持让后者用力“扇”自己，结果鲁法洛一巴掌过去造成了他的耳膜破裂。
.史蒂夫·卡瑞尔用了大量时间研究杜邦留下的影像资料，阅读关于他的文字。谈到为何选中卡瑞尔这样一位“喜剧演员”出演时，米勒表示，“我认为所有喜剧演员都很黑暗”。
.塔图姆和鲁法洛每天除了拍戏之外，还要进行激烈的摔跤训练，在完成最后一次训练结束之后，据塔图姆透露他和鲁法洛都哭了，因为实在太累了。
.片中，卡瑞尔戴着一副假鼻子，每次扮演角色前，他都需要用2个小时来化妆，包括做发型和改变皮肤的色泽。
.电影筹备了多年才得以开拍，此前希斯·莱杰、瑞恩·高斯林以及比尔·奈伊曾十分有望出演影片中的主角。
.电影的初剪版本时长超过4个小时。
.影片的人物原型Schultz兄弟，他们是美国历史上唯一一对获得奥运会和世界锦标赛双料冠军的兄弟运动员。
.片中多场戏都经过了演员的自由发挥，譬如卡瑞尔与塔图姆在直升机中的对白，还有塔图姆用手打碎了镜子，这也是剧本中所没有的。
.David Schultz的遗孀把她丈夫从前的眼镜给了鲁法洛，也是片中鲁法洛所佩戴的眼镜。
.Mark Schultz对影片的态度有着180度大转弯，从一开始支持影片到后来表示对它“深恶痛绝”，声称电影的歪曲刻画有损他的形象。
.电影上映后不久，Mark Schultz推出了自己的回忆录，名叫《关于我和我哥哥、约翰·杜邦的疯狂以及渴望奥林匹克金牌的真实故事》。
