本书是《新概念英语4》的升级版，保留了包括原书经典课文在内的全部内容，版式经全新设计，美观性和实用性兼备。本级别包含48课，课文均选自现代作家的各类作品，体裁和题材都很不相同；每课均配有词汇表、课文注释、参考译文、语言点讲解和练习，符合国内读者的学习习惯。全书分为两大部分，每部分之前都有一个摸底测验。第1部分为高级以下水平，目的是保证从中级水平到高级水平的顺利转换；第2部分为高级英语。全书通过精妙的语篇以及科学严谨、完整实用的学习体系，帮助学习者牢固掌握英语听、说、读、写4项基本技能，提升语言文化和审美素养，从而在学习中充分发挥自己的潜能。

何其莘，教授、博士生导师。曾在英国埃克塞特大学作访问学者（中英友好奖学金项目）和美国印第安那州立大学作访问学者（富布莱特项目）。研究课题有英语词汇学、词典学、英语教学与词典使用、英语专业基础阶段教学（尤其是精读和写作）。曾出版《英国戏剧选读》、《英国戏剧史》、《新概念英语》（新版）（共10册）等。曾获优秀教学成果奖陕西省一等奖等荣誉，曾被评为全国教育战线劳动模范，被授予“人民教师”勋章。
