本书从形式语义学的角度对汉语中使用频繁、分布广泛，素有“通用量词”之称的汉语量词“个”的属性和功能等开展研究，对厘清相关争议从语义学上提供了一个较为新颖的视角。内容主要包括以下两方面：
本书从通用量词“个”的外部语义关系分析入手，比较了“个”与其他个体量词之间的语义差异，强调了量词“个”特有的语义语法特点，指出“个”的本质功能就是作为量化标记。
本书对“个”作为量化标记在现代汉语普通话中的使用频率及分布情况进行了考察，利用详实的数据观察与分析验证了“个”表量的通用性。本研究明确了通用量词“个”的概念内涵，揭示了“个”的本质属性，合理解释了“个”的通用性，有助于揭示汉语名量与动量之间的关系以及汉语量化现象的内在规律。本书以英文为媒介，有利于促进现代汉语量词学术前沿研究成果在国际语言学界的交流传播，助力讲好中国语言学故事，同时本书稿不囿于纯理论语言研究，而是将理论分析与语言事实有机融合起来，力求相得益彰。

Su Xiangjun (粟向军), Ph.D., is an associate professor at the School of International Education in Zunyi Medical University, Guizhou, China. He has studied as a visiting scholar at the State University of New York at Albany in the U. S., Universidad del Este in Puerto Rico and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong China since 2009. His research interests include linguistics and translation studies.
