本书共五章，第一章介绍了医学机能实验的要求和步骤以及实验报告的书写要求；第二章介绍了常用动物实验的操作方法、动物实验的生物安全防护、实验用溶液的配置；第三章介绍了医学机能实验常用仪器设备（BL-420F生物信号采集分析系统、压力传感器和张力传感器、神经标本屏蔽盒、电压钳和膜片钳、无创动脉测压仪、呼吸机、离心机、分光光度计、Morris水迷宫、跳台记录仪、转棒仪等）；第四章介绍了综合性实验（不同因素对坐骨神经-腓肠肌动作电位和收缩活动的影响、药物对麻醉动物血流动力学的影响、不同因素对家兔心血管活动的影响、缺氧及其治疗措施、血压的调节和急性右心衰竭等共25个综合性实验）；第五章介绍了设计性实验的基本要求和操作、设定条件的设计性实验已经虚拟仿真实验。最后给出了6个常用的数据（动物实验剂量换算、药物单位、常用动物的各项生理指标）。
