Although this book is entitled Social Development in China, it is impossible in the limited space available to give a full explanation of the complicated changes in modern Chinese society. Analyzing Chinese society from a sociological theoretical framework entails discussion of issues that include: culture, socialization, social structure, social network, social interaction, social groups, social organizations, social control, social classification, poverty and anti-poverty, social exclusion, social insurance, social gender, social setup, social environment, and social transformation.
The Chinese society is enormous. It cannot be included in one small book like this. This pamphlet focuses on the aspects that are closely related with people's livelihood to describe and analyze the general picture of the Chinese society by concentrating on the main points. It shows the part that witnesses the greatest change in the Chinese society and is closely related with individual life. We hope the colorful description of this book can help readers understand some basic characteristics of the Chinese society. Perhaps, it is a freehand brushwork full of Chinese factors: in some detailed parts, the book focuses on depiction; yet in some other parts, it leaves some blanks for readers to ponder over.
