本教程共16单元，以每周一次（3课时）计，可供使用16周。其中大部分单元分6部分，前5部分每部分提供1—2篇听力录音材料。每部分列出的词汇和注释可以在听录音前由学生预习或由教师略作讲解。除在练习要求中另行注明外，录音材料放一遍后即可做有关练习。但是，教师可根据学生的实际水平和录音材料的难易程度，重放录音1—2遍后再做练习。每单元的内容如多于课堂内能实际完成的，可布置作为课后作业，让学生自己完成。每单元的最后部分均为“听译”，包括单句听译和段落听译两种。本书后附有4套模拟试题。其题型和要求与英语高级口译资格证书考试大纲的规定完全一致，难度大致相当，可供教师在培训的后阶段检测学生水平或供学生自测时使用。

本教程有2个附录。附录1是录音书面材料，附录2是单元练习答案。练习答案，特别是其中的汉语译文，仅供本教程使用者参考。在做练习前或听录音时不应翻阅这两个附录，以期达到更有效地提高本教程读者英语听力的目的。
