近年来，影响中日关系健康发展的一个重要原因，便是日本领导人屡屡参拜靖国神社，并不时为其参拜行为进行辩解，竟称“别国不应干涉追悼阵亡者”，“搞不懂不能参拜的原因”。

我们认为，要求正确认识历史问题并非“纠缠历史”，只有正确认识历史问题，才能发展中日关系、维护亚太地区乃至世界的和平与发展。

中国社会科学院近代史研究所编著的《靖国神社中的甲级战犯（英文版）》以全英文的形式介绍靖国神社中供奉的14名甲级战犯对中国人民和亚洲许多国家人民犯下的罪行，以使世人明了中国为什么反对日本领导人参拜靖国神社。
