The New Testament is a treasure of faith for Catholics. This treasure has become a greater part of our lives and our liturgy in recent decades. More and more, Catholics use the Scriptures for prayer and meditation, and study them in Bible classes and small groups in their parishes. The Second Vatican Council expanded the lectionary readings for Mass and this has been of great importance to us. This has helped Catholics both in our personal devotion and in our growth in community. Nevertheless, as we hear the readings at Mass and reflect on them, we inevitably meet passages that seem puzzling or difficult to understand. ...
The history of Bible translation within the Catholic Church is characterized by a rich tradition of rendering the Scriptures into the language of the faith community. This "comparative"New Testament is a great tool for Catholic use of the Scriptures. It features eight complete translations of the New Testament - all approved for use by Catholics - which show the full range of expression for this central text of Christian study, worship, prayer, and contemplation.
