Recording studios have personalities as varied as the art-ists who record in them. This unique book takes you on a tour of eighteen one-of-a-kind recording studios, from multi-million dollar facilities spread across acres of land to smaller, esoteric studios in cities. They are in converted barns, firehouses, railroad stations, churches, and sawmills; and on an island in a lake and the Navy yard in Brooklyn. Written in interview form, author Jeff Touzeau manages to capture the personalities of the studios and the passions of the people behind them. Gain a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the fasci-nating recording industry.
This book is not, nor was ever intended to be, a "studio directory." It is also not meant to be a "commercial guide" of any sort. Instead, it was created with the intent of highlighting unusual recording environments from many different origins and perspectives. Each facility has an equally interesting face behind it; people who arrived in their current stations by way of many different paths and backgrounds. Some were building contractors, some were respected engineers and musicians, and some owned highly successful niche recording labels.
