In 1980 seven-ear-Old Sabine Kuegler and her family went to Live ln a remote iungle area ofWest Papua，Indonesia，among the then recently discovered Fayu—a tribe untouched by modern civilisation．Her childhood was spent nOt playing with dolls but with snakes and real bows and arrows，and eating not sweets but roast bat and Insects．

Jungle Child is a remarkable story of a simple，primal existence，which was interrupted when Sabine’s family went back to Germany．Although they returned to West Papua，Sabine—now caught between two cultures—no Ionger feIt COmpletely at home．The death of her childhood friend Ohri，her Fayu-brother，resulted ln her decision to leave the jungle for good．

Aged seventeen．she attended a boarding schooI in Switzerland and gradually made her way back into Western society—a lourney that was at times painfuI and difficult。but one she ultimately survived，acknowledging that a part of her will always be a child of the jungle。
