　　雷吉娜碰见了查理，两人迅速相爱并结了婚，住在巴黎。三个月过去了，雷吉娜发现自己一点都不了解查理。她独自踏上旅途，考虑和查理离婚。然而回到巴黎的寓所后，她发现他们同住的公寓空空如也，她的银行帐户被清空，一堆法国警察在等她，而且，查理死了。
　　很快查理以前的三个同伴出现在她面前，希望雷吉娜回答他们关于查理的疑问，以及一大笔钱的去向，这笔钱一直在查理手里，现在他死了，大家都认为作为他的妻子，雷吉娜必然了解内情。殊不知雷吉娜自己也正因为完全不了解查理的世界和内心而决定和他离婚，对他所做的事情她也一无所知。
　　危机越来越明显，越来越多的人卷了进来，并且和查理一样被神秘谋杀，而雷吉娜独自在马丁尼克岛度假时遇见的约舒亚·彼德斯再次出现，并多次在危险状况下出手相救。可约舒亚的身份也是个谜，他仿佛在不停变换身份，使雷吉娜对他的信任蒙上阴影，尽管如此，两人之间还是有了感情。同时情况似乎越来越复杂，象拼图游戏一样，雷吉娜发挥出自己的聪明和随机应变的本事，一块一块把真相拼了出来，在巴黎的大街小巷，她躲避危险，寻找线索，雷吉娜发现无论是犯罪还是爱情，事情都不象当初看上去的那么简单。
