本书为2020—2021中国科协学科发展研究系列报告。中国科学技术协会主编的《学科发展研究系列报告》共分四个部分：第一部分综合分析了近年相关学科的发展报告，梳理、总结了各学科的主要进展及共性特点，分析了学科发展总体趋势，对学科未来的发展提出了理性思考；第二部分简要介绍了相关学科发展报告的主要内容，介绍了各学科近年来的研究进展、国内外发展水平比较、各学科的发展方向与对策建议等；第三部分为学科发展报告主要内容的英文介绍；第四部分为相关学科发展报告的主要内容的英文介绍。
