《中国文化经典选读》为重庆市“‘中国文化走出去’实验班教学改革探索”高等教育教学改革研究重大项目和四川外国语大学“三特”项目“中国文化走出去”实验班，以及“三特”教材资助项目的建设成果之一。教材用于《中国文学导论及经典文本选读》该专业核心课程，主要内容包括中国思想史的介绍、中国思想经典文本中英文对照选本、中外学者对中国思想文化英文评述选篇和思考题。这样的内容设计，是为了满足实验班本科阶段培养具有扎实的中英文语言文化基础、具备深入进行跨文化研究与运用潜质的高素质专业人才的培养目标，从目前来说很难在靠前外找到符合这一课程设计的教材。目前靠前外常见的中国文化英文读本教材都适用于用英文介绍中国文化的概况、文学、哲学、物质文化等方面的知识，以介绍性为主、以点带面，基本不涉及对经典文本本身的阅读和讨论。教材自《中国文化导论及经典文本导读》2013年进行课程的全面改版以来就开始进行筹划，笔者从选篇、译本筛选、教材体例设计等方面逐步进行，前后进行了多次修改和重新布局，语言的勘误、梳理、润色、调整也仍在持续进行之中。通过与课程的配合，笔者也发现教材之中存在的各种问题。例如，原稿的注释采用尾注的形式，学生查阅不太方便，于是在教材的第五稿中笔者改用了“边注”的形式。此外，笔者经过近几年的教学逐步了解到中国英语专业本科生的中英文知识背景情况，对选篇和简介之中可能出现的知识盲点进行注解。整本教材都力图做到知识性、覆盖面、实用性、启发性等各个方面的结合，以“适用”和“好用”为基本原则，选择很为经典的思想文化文本英译，并提供中文原文对照；同时兼顾拓展性，培养“实验班”精英教育目标之具备思辨、分析、比较能力的高素质人才。    本教材初稿于2015年基本成型，几经修改目前仍在大规模地试用之中，并与我们的在线开放课程相配合。随着该课程2017年9月在重庆市在线课程平台的上线，教材使用的规模会扩大。
