The most challenging aspect of writing a textbook on Human Behavior in the Social Environment (HBSE) is selecting what to include and what to omit.Students do not benefit when they are overwhelmed with tinconnected bits of information, whether this information is conceptual or theoretical in nature. We challenged ourselves to write a comprehensive textbook, applied and integrated, that would be of value in both graduate and undergraduate programs.
In preparing the first edition,we were aware that few textbooks being used in undergraduate programs were also being adopted at the graduate level. It was commonly believed that graduate students require more advanced content than that traditionally offered to undergraduates.
