The fact that the works of contemporary sculptor Cy Twombly are on show in the Alte Pinakothek and that the public can now view sculptures never before shown in our Old Masters treasury is an appropriate way to honor and recognize this great American artist who has long since found his way to Europe in his life and work. Although they were created only recently, his sculptures partake of that age-old quest to express absolute beauty.
