It all started back in the eighties. The moment lan Schrager opened the doors of his first hotel, Morgans, in 1984, the hotel industry would never be the same again. Not only would he go down as the father of the notorious Studio 54, but also as the pioneer of a new movement in hotel management and design. Ever since, young, shrewd entrepreneurs with family money followed suit, planting seeds all over the globe that have grown to define what is loosely termed today as the boutique hotel concept, Others prefer to call it "small luxury", or "designer". We like to call them "cool".
