本书收录了作者发表过的多篇短文，涉及时事、医学、哲学、历史、文化、艺术等方面。作者将其译为英文，并进行注释或解析。注释部分就原文的某些理解和翻译技巧做了解释，解析部分则讲解相关的翻译理论和历史背景等。

林巍，杭州师范大学外国语学院翻译研究所特聘教授，主要从事汉英翻译教学与研究工作。曾任职、任教于中国外文局、澳大利亚塔斯马尼亚大学等。在国内外出版著作或译著十多部，发表论文百余篇。
