本书是关于百余年中国电影历史及其发展的通论，视野开阔，将中国电影史作为一种系统来进行广泛的辐射透视和观察探究。从电影在中国放映起始至进入互联网时代后的中国电影发展近况，全书将中国电影百余年来的历史通过系统式的标准记录、考究、研判，思路清晰，框架完整。早期电影史的记述，注意呈现出以影人、影片、影业为叙述核心，充分地、尽可能广泛详尽地占有材料。

丁亚平，中国传媒大学教授、博士生导师。中国艺术研究院研究员，北京电影学院特聘教授。中国高校影视学会会长、中国电影评论学会副会长。国家“万人计划”领军人才，中宣部文化名家暨“四个一批”人才，文化和旅游部“优秀专家”，国务院颁发政府特殊津贴专家，中国电影家协会理事。主要研究领域为影视史、评论、艺术理论等。出版个人专著《艺术文化学》《影像中国：中国电影艺术1945-1949》《中国当代电影史》《中国电影通史》等二十余种，发表论文和专业文章五百余篇，主持三项国家社科基金重大项目，任首席专家。《中国大百科全书》（第三版）影视学卷主编。
