本书是哈尔滨工业大学“双一流”建设精品出版工程规划教材，也是2019年黑龙江省“线上线下混合式”一流课科的配套教材，难易程度适中，习题形式多样，自测与评估全面，科技性、文化性与趣味性彰显。本书包括8个单元32个章节，科学且系统地引导学习者从英语单词的构成入手，高效地扩大词汇量。
本书适用于高等学校非英语专业大学生的素质课程使用，以及具有同等英语水平的学生使用。

刘晓辉，哈尔滨工业大学外国语学院副教授，任教28年来一直从事英语教学，主要研究方向为英语教学法、翻译理论与实践。2006.9—2007.9先后于荷兰代尔夫特理工大学和乌特勒支大学研修。主要讲授“英语词汇提高”“翻译实践”等课程。主编《大学英语四级词汇考试虫记忆树》《大学英语水平进级测试》《英语学术写作——传播科学的媒介》《英语时文阅读》等教材，并参编《大学英语词汇》等教材。先后主持完成3项省级和2项校级科研课题的研究，目前正主持黑龙江省和哈尔滨工业大学科研课题各一项。积极参与大学英语教改，采用线上与线下结合的教学模式。所教授的课程“英语词汇提高”被评为2019年黑龙江省线上线下混合式一流本科课程。
