本书专为大学英语专业学生编写，也可作为非英语专业学生相关选修课教材。本书共分为十章，从古希腊讲起，到当代结束，讲授欧洲文化的各个方面，包括历史、哲学、宗教、文学、艺术、建筑等，图文并茂，难词配有音标和汉译，每章后配有练习题，书后附有参考答案。

曾七次获河北省优秀科研成果奖，五次获河北省优秀教学成果奖。
主要学术兴趣为英美诗歌、中英诗歌互译及译评。出版邓恩研究、文艺复兴时期诗歌研究、美国诗歌研究等方面专著5部，英美文学教材8部；发表多篇邓恩研究、彭斯研究、文艺复兴时期诗人研究和翻译研究方面的文章。近年来，出版多部诗歌译著（中译英）。
