本教材基于多年教学实践经验，以长篇阅读为媒介，以拓展学生的思辨能力为手段，从中西对比角度讲授跨文化交际知识，旨在提升新时代大学生的跨文化交际意识与能力。
本书共分8个单元，每单元包含3个阅读版块。第1～2单元介绍跨文化交际的相关理论和概念；第3～6单元从中西对比角度展示价值观、语言交际、非语言交际、商务跨文化交际等内容；第7～8单元阐述中国传统文化的核心内容和现代形象的传播。内容的编排既能改善学生缺乏跨文化交际理论基础的现状，又能帮助学生切实实现跨文化交际的双向交流。
每单元的3个阅读版块由精读、泛读和学术阅读构成。阅读练习题涵盖阐述、分析、评价、推理等一系列思辨技能训练，使学生通过全方位的阅读训练构建跨文化交际知识与能力。
