《财经专业英语教程》从上个世纪90年代末策划至今已接近20个年头了，策划起始正是西方经济学在中国高校普遍开设之际，首版的课文几乎全部来自西方发达国家，主要是美国的经济理论和实践。如今中国经济经历了30多年的高速发展后进入了中高速新常态时期，表现出了公认的长远中高速发展的潜力，不久的将来中国将成为世界第一大经济体，并可以继续前进。世界上的有识之士认为世界经济中心和经济学的研究中心也将转移到中国来。本教程从第四版开始增添中国经济层面的材料，如今这本由宋德富、张美兰主编的《财经专业英语教程(第5版)》选取了中国行政和金融改革、供给侧结构性改革、一带一路倡议和IMF将人民币加入特别提款权货币篮子等材料，使得整个教程中国经济层面的课文占了全部课文的四成。
必须指出，中国经济学家提出来的理论要产生国际影响，除了语言的问题外，研究方法和表述的方式需要采用现代国际经济学界通用的范式，如此这般其他国家的学者才能看得懂，也才能够接受，因此西方经济学理论和实践对于财经类的莘莘学子仍然是必不可少的课程。本次修订注意保留西方发达国家的经济研究成果，继续力求扩充学生财经英语的知识面，譬如管理会计、商业模式、PMI、股票指数、货币供应量、CPI、IPO、基尼系数、IMF、世行组织结构、无现金支付优劣、ECFA等等。整个教程内容丰富广泛，兼顾了财经各专业的基础知识。
另外，本教程解释详尽，设计了大量的巩固练习，并附有词汇总表、参考译文等，完全适合有志者进行自学。
