Tiziano Vecellio (c.1488/90-1576) - always known in English simply as Titian (1) - was one of the greatest artists in an age extraordinarily rich in artistic genius. Like his slightly older contemporary Michelangelo (1475-1564), Titian was widely recognized from the time of his early maturity as possessing creative gifts that were considered to be divine.
