During the last two decades, the Royal Academy has been privileged to show a number of masterpieces by Amedeo Modigliani. In I989, several key works by the artist were included in our landmark exhibition 'Italian Art in the Twentieth Century', and in 1994 we were delighted to be able to show the then newly discovered collection of Modigliani drawings belonging to the artist's first patron and collector, Dr Paul Alexandre. It is now a great honour and pleasure for the Royal Academy to present the first major show dedicated to Modigliani's paintings to be held in Great Britain for over forty years.
