The jewellery collection owned by the Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim comprises thousands of pieces. This is a museum that is uniquely specialised in addressing the history of European jewellery. It was established in 1961 as part of the ,Reuchlinhaus > cultural centre after plans by the architect Manfred Lehmbruck. Johannes Reuchlin, a humanist, jurist and linguist and one of the most respected men of the late Middle Ages and early Modern Era, was born in Pforzheim in 1477. He is rightly regarded as the most important scion of his native city. Fittingly, the museum is today a centre for historic and modern jewellery that is famous far beyond the borders of Germany.
