Before I began this book I had absolutely no idea how close to reality the story would actually be. Over thirty medical doctors and research scientists helped at the conceptual stages, and then again when the manuscript was nearing completion. As one transgenic technologist from the University of California told me, ’Two to three years in the future I wouldn’t have any trouble suspending my beliefs about the events described in When The Wind Blows. Much of this will come to pass.’A medical doctor and Ph.D. at the National Institute of Health said,’The book is on a par with Jurassic Park. Both stories have elements that are absolutely true. Most people are not going to believe the breakthroughs that are coming in the future. When The Wind Blows is definitely in the realm of biological possibility.’ These doctors and researchers went into considerable detail, but I don’t want to spoil any of the surprises or suspense in the story you are about to read. I don’t think you will ever forget reading When The Wind Blows, but don’t think of this story as a fable. It is tomorrow’s headlines.
Above all, I would like to thank Maxine Paetro, who was deeply involved with the book almost from the beginning, and who was important through the arduous research, writing and editing process.
