ROBIN HOOD is one of the great folk figures in English tradition. Our information about his legend comes from brief old poems in which single adventures are told. Part of the tradition was also created much later by Sir Walter Scott in his novel Ivanhoe. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries there have been many books telling a continuous story about Robin Hood (and, of course, a number of very successful movies), but there is no one accepted unified version; every complete story is an individual author’s imaginative regrouping of the separate elements of the legend.
For the present volume Robert Blaisdell has written a new text based closely on authentic-old material. He does not attempt to narrate all the incidents that have been connected with Robin Hood, but concentrates on the most familiar and basic ones, making sure that all the favorite characters are included.
