This sixth volume in the series "International Architecture & Interiors" reflects on the theme of interior living environments, which was the subject of the first book. That first publication, printed a few years ago, gave rise to what has become a successful, precise and documented critical study of architectural environments made in the U.S.A. After only three years, this book, which is dedicated to a parallel analysis of the latest generation of lofts and some significant New York apartments, must be interpreted as a timely update of the more interesting design projects con-cerning interior environments.
Following the success of Urban Interiors in New York & USA, the first volume in this series, here are another twenty-five projects for new residential environments in New York. The book provides an effi-cient and rich comparison of new living styles from a functional and distributive point of view, as well as in terms of architectural image and internal ambience. The loft, a typ cal New York industrial envi-ronment used in the sixties by Soho artists as an incomparable home-studi ), is now a new type of exclu-sive apartment and residence, used by art and photography collectors. It is the modern alternative to the luxurious residences, which, at the beginning of the century, were lotated within the palaces that overlooked Central Park. Each project was selected on the basis of its arcnitectural value, its originality and the creative expression of its architects. No particular was left unexplored, from the global layout solution to the choice of materials and details to the selection of the furrlishings, viewed as an organ-ic component of the entire project. The book, therefore, seeks to providel a precise and modern testi-monial of the architecture of residential interiors of homes in New York, one of the world"s most famous cities. The project"s designers provide a collection of project solutions that are characterized by a vari-ety of expressive techniques, which, at times, propose new typologies (th loft of the 9o"s) and exper-imentation with new compositions and materials. The aim is the definition ,f high-quality environments, which mirror the city in which they were constructed.
