本书主要关注于我国援外体育建筑的历史背果、设计发展和援助意义。该书按照时间顺序，将我国自20世纪50年代起持续向亚非拉等发展中国家援助的百余座体育建筑划分在三个历史时期进行分阶段介绍。在每个发展阶段，分别阐述了我国援外的基本方针政策、在此影响下的援外建筑创作机制，以及结合详细的多个援外体育场馆的案例进行的建筑设计特点分析。本书以我国援外体育建筑为例，展现了我国对欠发达地区的无偿援助和无私帮助，体现了1949年后我国建筑师对于援助项目倾注的智慧和热情，并总结出我国建筑设计水平的持续发展与显著提高。

常威，博士，九三学社成员，唐山师范学院美术学院副教授，燕山大学建筑工程与力学学院建筑学专业硕士生导师，国家注册城乡规划师，京津冀城市更新专家。博士毕业于香港城市大学建筑与土木工程专业，硕士毕业于英国伦敦大学学院（UCL）建筑学专业，本科毕业于天津大学建筑学专业。多年来一直从事和建筑设计相关的教学与科研工作。以第一作者身份在A&HCI、SCI等高水平期刊发表学术论文20余篇，以第一作者身份出版学术专著1部，独著身份出版学术译著1部，主持和参与完成各级教科研项目10余项。
