◎简　　介
　　美国经济大萧条时期，俄克拉何马州的大片农田久旱无雨，广大农民陷入绝境。穷困潦倒的乔德一家，被迫背井离乡，乘坐一辆破旧的老式福特牌汽车，向西横越难行的沙漠，到加利福尼亚去寻找安居的乐土。途中，年迈的祖父祖母先后去世，乔德的兄弟诺亚悄然离去，乔德的朋友凯西遭到杀身之祸，乔德也受以追捕。尽管一家人死里逃生、前途茫茫，但母亲仍鼓励大家顽强地活下去。
幕后制作
　　影片有明显的社会主义倾向，对社会问题进行了批判现实主义的揭露，堪称是对资本主义罪恶的有力抨击。但该片当年在苏联没有通过审查，原因是苏联的审查官无法理解为什么美国最贫穷的家庭会拥有一辆卡车，他们认为这有美化资本主义的嫌疑。
