◎简　　介　

　　故事发生在公元1788年，乔治三世（奈杰尔·霍桑 Nigel Hawthorne 饰）带领着他的人民和军队逐渐在欧洲大陆站稳了脚跟，整个国家在乔治王的英明领导下安乐富足，生机勃勃。然而某一日，乔治王忽然患上了精神病，疯疯癫癫，胡言乱语，首相彼得（朱利安·沃德姆 Julian Wadham 饰）感到焦急万分，找来各路名医，却都无法治好乔治王，亦查不出患病的原因。
　　野心勃勃的威尔斯王子（鲁伯特·艾弗雷特 Rupert Everett 饰）想要借此机会将父亲赶下王位，自己继任，为了避免这一情况的发生，彼得不得不想方设法拖延时间，掩盖实情。就在彼得感到再也支撑不下去之时，一位名叫威尔斯（伊安·霍姆 Ian Holm 饰）的医生出现了。
