　　1929年，新婚夫妇乔治·潘伯顿和萨琳娜·潘伯顿从波士顿前往北卡罗莱纳的崇山峻岭中，准备在那里建立一个木材帝国。虽然乔冶已经在木材营里住了段时间，还致使自己的女仆非婚怀孕，而萨琳娜却是初来乍到。但她却马上显示出了不输男儿的活力：监工、驯鹰捕蛇、打猎，甚至在灰熊的魔爪之下拯救了丈夫的性命。
