◎简　　介

　　十三岁的女孩琳（朱迪·福斯特 Jodie Foster 饰）独自居住在靠海的一座小屋里，她的父亲已去世，母亲离家出走。疼爱他的父亲帮她预付了三年的房租，直到她能够自谋生活，她需要做的就是守住父亲已逝的秘密以保住居住权。但这对于一个小女孩来说一点也不易，为了躲避闲人猜疑，她始终独来独往，学着天衣无缝地处理大小事务。与世无争的她还要面对常来找茬的女房东和其儿子的骚扰，偶尔警察登门，琳则需要编造一系列的借口掩饰父亲的缺席。一次意外让琳结识了一个跛脚男孩马里奥（斯科特·雅各比 Scott Jacoby 饰），琳开始时对他提防着，但经过大大小小的考验，他们渐渐开始信任对方，琳终于告诉了他关于自己和这座房子的秘密，也开始觉得自己越来越离不开他。然而好景不长，马里奥因染上肺炎病危住院，前所未有的孤独感向琳袭来，同时威胁也在逼近：房东儿子竟发现了房子的秘密，以此要挟，无助的琳将如何面对这一切呢？
