　　本片的情节来源于一个真实的故事，一位圣地亚哥的男子经历了一系列无法解释的神奇事件，一个怪念头导致他残忍的用刀杀害了自己的母亲。赫尔佐格表示：“我一直以来都想拍一部恐怖电影，但是不想表现为鲜血淋漓的斧头和铁链那样。而希望观众从中感受到一种莫名的恐惧。”
