◎简　　介　

　　在脑神经科医院里有一个勤快的总是面带微笑的勤杂工。他曾一度虐待妻子，抛弃女儿去远洋船队当了一名船员。几年之后，他厌倦了这种生活，回到了故乡。回来后才知道，在他走后，妻子禁不住打击，发了疯，被收容到了脑神经科医院。而女儿已长成一个漂亮的大姑娘，正打算结婚，但却怕疯了的母亲会影响自己的婚姻，很是苦闷。父亲也怕疯了的妻子会破坏女儿的幸福，便潜入医院，做了一名勤杂工，打算寻找机会带着妻子逃出医院。于是在医院做勤杂工的父亲微笑着面对每一个病人，这个柔和的微笑面具使医院里充满了欢声笑语，做勤杂工的父亲在医院的走廊里卖力的清扫着卫生。女儿和心上人捧着鲜艳的花束走向幸福的红地毯。
　　此片根据川端康成的同名小说改编，是日本电影史上新感觉派电影里程碑式的名作。曾被收入日本名片200部，并获1926年电影旬报十佳奖第四名。为此篇的上映，导演、编剧、摄影师几人拿出全部家产，为作品奔波。导演衣笠助是电影界的元老也是新感觉派电影的创始人。他顺应当时世界电影无字幕无声片的潮流，争取到了在新宿武茂野馆（当时为放映外国电影的超级影院）公映，并由演员德川林梦声在一旁解说。这一次首映被称之为新生事物降临黎明时刻的狂热一页。
