　　肖恩(克尔-史密斯饰)一路从洛杉矶开车前往佛罗里达，去参加他姐姐的婚礼，顺便捎去一些Mercedes葡萄酒。他压根就没想到会碰上一位搭车者。从那时起，他的这次跨州旅行便成了一场闻末所闻、充满血腥味的恶梦。
肖恩的这个新同伴尼克(布伦丹-费尔饰)，看上去并不象是一个百无聊赖、漫无目的的旅行者。他是一个“猎手”，一个四处游荡又无家可归的年轻人，他的猎物还是"血淋淋的"。在深夜无人的高速公路上，一群人凶残地吸食那些不幸的受害者。一句话，他们是吸血鬼。肖恩根本就没想到尼克正害着这种"吸血病"，几个月以来尼克一直在跟踪着各色各样的人。肖恩与他的这位怪异的“副驾驶”上路以来，整个晚上他都莫名其妙地停了一会又一会。看来，他将永远也参加不了他姐姐的婚礼了。
当肖恩和尼克搭载上了迷茫而惊魂未定的梅甘(伊莎贝拉-迈科饰)时，追杀的杀手们以为她死了就放过了她。梅甘不仅是个受害者，她还是一个人类的诱饵。肖恩不断被她的脆弱和美丽所吸引。当肖恩自己也被染上这种致命的病菌时，他的胜算更小了。尼克继续回避肖恩的问题，但最后，经过一场激烈的争论，他被迫向肖恩坦白了一切----能治愈他们"疾病"的唯一办法就是杀死吸血鬼的主体----那个吸血鬼团伙的邪恶头领基特(乔纳森-谢尔彻饰)。这是一场惊险的死亡与时间的赛跑，如果他们失败的话，他们将与敌手遭遇到同样的命运----永远成为那伙贪得无厌的不死鬼中的一员。
今天就可能是他们今生的最后一天了。
